Twenty-four planetary hours, twelve from sunrise to sunset and twelve from sunset to the next sunrise — each ruled by one of the seven classical planets in Chaldean order. Computed from your own city’s sunrise rather than from a clock, which is why the day’s twelve and the night’s twelve are almost never the same length.

Sunrise and sunset here are the same, to within two minutes, in Mandya — so every time on this page is theirs too.

Sunrise – sunset
Every hora is cut from this interval, so the whole sequence moves with it. Same date, eight cities.
1h 3m between Kolkata and Ahmedabad, on the same date. That gap is sunrise, and it is why a table cannot answer this.

What a hora actually is
A hora is a twelfth of the day or a twelfth of the night, not a sixtieth of a day-and-night. So on a Delhi day in June the day’s horas run about 68 minutes and the night’s about 52, and in December it is the other way round. They are only sixty minutes each on the equator, or anywhere at an equinox — which is the one fact that makes the difference between this and a clock hour visible.
The first hora of the day belongs to the day’s own lord — the Sun on Sunday, the Moon on Monday — and the sequence then steps through the Chaldean order: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon. Twenty-four steps later the next day begins on the lord two places along, which is exactly why the weekdays run in the order they do. The seven-day week is a by-product of this table, not an input to it.
It is the same cycle as choghadiya at twelve steps instead of eight. The method →
